Snowy River Brumbies: heritage or pest?

This interesting article appeared on the ABC webpage last week, discussing the issues around wild brumbies in the high country of Australia.

While there’s presently a moratorium of aerial culling of brumbies, it appears that numbers are on the increase, and their impact on this environmentally-sensitive region is increasing.

So, are these animals iconic bush heritage that should be protected, or are they essentially feral pests that should be eradicated?
